# Redeem a promo code

> Find out whether your PDL promo code adds credits or a checkout discount, then apply it in the API Dashboard.

A promo code adds a promotional benefit to your People Data Labs account. Each promo code provides one of two benefits:

| Promo code type | What it does | Where to apply it |
| :- | :- | :- |
| [**Promotional credits**](#redeem-promotional-credits) | Adds credits to your account for one or more APIs. | The **Billing Details** tab of **Plans & Billing**. |
| [**Checkout discount**](#apply-a-checkout-discount) | Lowers the price of a subscription you purchase or upgrade. | The checkout form, when you purchase a subscription. You can also apply it on the **Billing Details** tab. |

The email or offer that included your promo code usually says which type it is. If it doesn't, you can [apply the code and check what it added](#not-sure-which-type-you-have).

## Prerequisites

* A promo code from PDL. Promo codes are usually sent by email.
* A PDL account. If you don't have one, [sign up for a free account](https://dashboard.peopledatalabs.com/) and complete the onboarding flow.

## Redeem promotional credits

**1. Open Billing Details**

Sign in to the API Dashboard, then go to [**Plans & Billing**](https://dashboard.peopledatalabs.com/billing) and select the **Billing Details** tab.

**2. Enter your code**

Under **Redeem Promo Code**, enter your promo code and click **Apply**. A brief notification confirms the result.

**3. Confirm your credits**

Select the [**Subscriptions**](https://dashboard.peopledatalabs.com/subscription) tab. Promotional credits appear as new entries under each API the promo code covers, with their own credit amount, term, and end date.

Promotional credits apply to your whole account, so you keep using your existing API keys.

## Apply a checkout discount

Apply a discount code on the checkout form when you purchase or upgrade a subscription.

**1. Open Subscriptions**

Sign in to the API Dashboard, then go to **Plans & Billing** and select the [**Subscriptions**](https://dashboard.peopledatalabs.com/subscription) tab.

**2. Choose a plan**

Find the API you want to purchase or upgrade a subscription for, and click **Manage**. The **Manage Your Subscription** checkout form opens.

Click Manage to open the checkout form

**3. Enter your code**

Choose your billing cycle and credits. Under **Subscription Details**, enter your promo code in the **Enter promo code** field and click **Apply**.

**4. Confirm your discount**

Check that the discount appears in **Total amount due today** before you click **Continue**.

You can also enter a discount code on the **Billing Details** tab, the same way as [promotional credits](#redeem-promotional-credits). The discount then appears on the checkout form the next time you purchase a subscription.

## Not sure which type you have

If your offer doesn't say what your promo code provides:

1. Apply it on the **Billing Details** tab, as described in [Redeem promotional credits](#redeem-promotional-credits).
2. Check the **Subscriptions** tab. If new credit entries appear, your code provided promotional credits.
3. If no new entries appear, your code is likely a checkout discount. Click **Manage** on the API you want to purchase, and check for the discount on the checkout form.

## Troubleshooting

Contact [support@peopledatalabs.com](mailto:support@peopledatalabs.com) if:

* Your promo code isn't accepted.
* You don't see promotional credits on the **Subscriptions** tab or a discount on the checkout form.

Include the email address on your PDL account and the promo code you tried to apply.
