# Find your API key

> Locate your PDL API key in the API Dashboard.

Every PDL API request needs an API key. Your key lives in the API Dashboard.

## Prerequisites

* A PDL account. If you don't have one, [sign up for free](https://www.peopledatalabs.com/signup).

## Find your key

1. Sign in to the [API Dashboard](https://dashboard.peopledatalabs.com/).
2. Click **Account** > [**API Keys**](https://dashboard.peopledatalabs.com/api-keys).
3. Copy the **Active Key**.

> Your API key is secret. PDL bills credits based on usage associated with it, so don't share it or commit it to source control.

## Replace or add keys
