A 429 response with rate_limit_error means you sent more requests than your API key’s rate limit allows in the current window.

How PDL rate limits work

  • Limits apply per API key and per endpoint.
  • PDL uses a fixed-window strategy. With a limit of 100 requests per minute, you can send all 100 at any point in the 60-second window.
  • Once x-ratelimit-remaining reaches zero, requests return 429 until the window resets.

Resolve the error

  1. Read the x-ratelimit-reset header to see when the window resets, in UTC.
  2. Pause requests until that time, then retry.
  3. Track x-ratelimit-remaining and slow down before it reaches zero.
For bulk work, use the Bulk Enrichment API to send up to 100 records in one request.

Increase your limit

Enterprise customers can contact their Customer Success Manager to raise rate limits. For details on limit headers, see Usage limits.
